WHAT IS THE Mentoring Program?
-An innovative mentoring and sponsorship program for local high school students who could use support outside of school and family in order to identify and reach their personal and academic goals.
-An opportunity to build trusting relationships between teenagers and older community members.
-Mentees and Mentors are matched according to shared interests and compatible personalities. Pairs are same sex.
-Pairs meet weekly to: go hiking, get coffee, take a ride to Pittsfield, go bowling, work out at Berkshire South, volunteer together on a Saturday, cook dinner, go to Mass MoCA, get ice cream and chat…
RSYP's four-year-old Mentoring Program matches youth ages 12-25 with adults ages 21 and up in the South Berkshire community for one-on-one mentoring and relationship building. It was the first mentoring program in the area, and it has grown from 7 matches in 2005 to 20 in 2008.
The goal of the Mentoring Program is to provide young people with the adult support they need, outside of family and school, in order to identify and reach their academic, work and/or personal goals. Mentors and mentees go through an application and interview process, and are matched according to shared interests and compatibility.
Once matched, mentoring pairs meet weekly on their own. The Program Director keeps in close contact with mentors and mentees, as well as mentees' families, to offer support and deal with any problems. The program offers support meetings and celebrations to foster group spirit and give participants a chance to share stories and best practices.
New applicants are welcome any time.
